What is Number Stars?

Times Tables set to music by a crew of pebble friends!

We can all remember the lyrics of our favourite tunes, but times tables can be tricky. At Number Stars we've created great tunes and grooves written and played by real musicians and songwriters to help make Times Tables fun!

Why?

Music can change our energy instantly, something that feels hard can become exciting and alive. Number Stars songs aim to nourish and nurture, inspire and make possible.  Dance and sing the answers into memories!

Who is it for?

A kid who doesn't feel confident in maths but loves art.

Someone who loves to dance and sing along whilst learning.

A primary teacher wanting to make lessons more musical.

A music teacher wanting to show how music is a core subject!

A grown up who still find times tables tricky and likes a decent groove!

A family in the car looking for tunes they can all enjoy!

Why all the pebble characters?

The animation isn’t neat and slick. It’s designed by children using simple things like stones, wood, paper, modeling clay, paper clips, pipe cleaners and paper puppets. We wanted it all to feel accessible. So, with the children’s imagination, concepts and direction, plus a little bit of legwork from us (well, more like 15,000 pictures) we’ve created animations for 22 songs.

Why does it sound like that?

The music is split into two complete albums, Bounce (classic pop tunes) and Jump (like Sesame Street tunes you’ve never heard before). With 2 albums we aim to

a) give more choice of tunes and

b) introduce children to different types of music.

So, there are 2 songs for each times table and hopefully you’ll like both!

We've were inspired by grooves and genres that have been a big hit for many years and across generations. Then we wrote melodies deliberately geared to helping learn the times tables in different ways. Finally, we ran all the tunes by the target audience – ie lots of children - to make sure they were fun enough!

We hope you enjoy!
